ABOUT THE STUDIO
WHO IS
STUDIO KANE
Studio Kane embodies the spirit of Korean artistic innovation and creativity, pushing the boundaries of independent animation.
Rooted in a deep respect for our artistic craft, Studio Kane draws inspiration from South Korea's long-standing tradition of intentional artistry; valuing patience, discipline, and emotional honesty just as much as technical skill.
Simply put, we believe meaningful work is constructed slowly and shaped best by people who genuinely care about what they create. That philosophy guides not only how we tell our stories, but also how we build our studio. Most successfully by embracing creativity and collaboration with longevity in mind, and by maintaining a genuine effort to leave the industry healthier than how we first found it.
As such, Studio Kane stands proud as a financially independent animation studio
committed to redefining industry standards through integrity and passion.
Free from external pressures, we choose to prioritize the quality of our work over profit-driven shortcuts; placing intention, craft, and care at the center of everything we create.
WHAT DO WE
STRIVE FOR?
OUR GOAL
Studio Kane believes the animation industry still holds unexplored potential to tell stories that carry real emotional weight, without sacrificing the beauty of 2D animation or resorting to exploitative shortcuts. The goal is simple: To prove that strongly developed narratives—when written with care, patience, and intention—deserve serious investment of trust, time, and capital.
And in doing so, to prove that these stories can return that investment in full;
through a tri-fold impact that is:
-
Financially advantageous to the studio
-
Culturally meaningful to the audience
-
Creatively inspiring to the industry that dared to believe in it
This should be the standard.
Not the exception.
OUR ETHICS
For this reason, Studio Kane takes a firm stance in defense of our employees and independent contractors. To those who consider this irrelevant, we invite a more long-term view. Because ethical treatment isn’t a side issue. It’s foundational from the very start.
Fair compensation.
Mutual respect.
Transparency & accountability.
To us, the concept is a no-brainer:
Well-treated people treat good stories well.
OUR REALITY
In that same vein, Studio Kane also acknowledges that innovation is an unavoidable part of the industry’s evolution. While we do not reject technological progress outright, we strongly advocate for the responsible, clearly defined use of intelligent tools, alongside the rejection of generative AI designed to replace artistic authorship; guided by a single principle all creatives should share:
Technology should elevate human creativity.
...Not replace, erase, or exploit it.
OUR STANCE
Determined to remain true to this mindset through tangible action, our studio embraces a deliberately human-first production philosophy; holding firm in the belief that creative works should always begin, and end, with people.
From our perspective, advanced tools and production pipelines are not replacements for creativity, but a support layer that enhances efficiency and alleviates the demanding realities of intense animation pipelines. At every stage, the work remains grounded in human intention, craft, and effort—never reduced to automated or lifeless prompt generation.
OUR CREATION
Our flagship series is held to the same uncompromising standard. Each episode offers narratives that not only entertain, but also provide rich insights and thoughtful perspectives beneath its high-stakes action and comedic rhythm; showcased through remarkable
hand-drawn animation and striking visuals designed to linger in the minds of its audience long after the screen fades to black.
THE END RESULT
Crystal-clear in its execution and purpose, Studio Kane presents an emotionally charged series, meticulously crafted with both sharp intent and genuine joy. One that invites viewers to fall deeply in love with its flawed, yet relatable characters and the lore-intensive world they struggle to navigate.
In doing so, we created what we call — OUTLIER
ADVOCATING BEYOND THE SCREEN
As reflected in the themes explored throughout our series, OUTLIER,
Studio Kane proudly advocates for organizations that share our commitment to...
-
End the stigma surrounding mental illness
-
Raise awareness for the hearing-impaired community
-
Stand tall against the abusive use of artificial intelligence and the theft of creative works
-
Set an example in the entertainment industry by implementing fair protections & offering generous compensation for voice actors and animators
While we may not be officially affiliated with all the listed organizations, we deeply admire their work and stand alongside them in the pursuit of uplifting diverse voices.
Studio Kane's active support reflects the core values we've upheld since the beginning.
Therefore, we encourage others to follow in our footsteps and support these meaningful initiatives:

The first sketches of OUTLIER characters were drafted and our conceptualized world began to take shape. The initial rough draft of the Season 1 narrative was written.
Studio Kane officially formed as a company in the United States, taking its very first steps toward the ambitious goal of producing its first animated series and comic, despite having limited resources and a small network.
After numerous rewrites and returns to the drawing board, the OUTLIER Season 1 scripts were finalized, with the broader narrative arc fully developed across a projected four seasons and a standalone theatrical film script prepared in parallel.
All 65 scripts were then presented to a private audience of over 50 individuals with no affiliation to Studio Kane.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with an approximate 90% retention rate across Seasons 1 and 2, representing an estimated 16–32 hours of voluntary engagement in pre-visualization form across two distinct viewer groups; and across both groups, many participants expressed a strong and lasting attachment to the material.
Following these results, OUTLIER was officially green-lit for in-house production.
Seeking a hefty budget to respectfully pay our cast & crew the ample wages they deserve, Studio Kane spent months at the negotiation table to secure funding from private investors.
...Only for those negotiations to fall through just weeks before our scheduled marketing campaign, resulting in the postponement of the debut teaser release.
In exchange for the proposed budget, Studio Kane was informed that a significant portion of the cast and crew—many of whom had built the production from the ground up—faced a high likelihood of replacement, alongside a shift in creative control to external parties outside of the original vision.
Unwilling to compromise its creative integrity, its team, or its founding principles, Studio Kane chose to walk away from the agreement. This decision, shaped by both principle and a measured caution toward external creative oversight, left the future of OUTLIER uncertain.
With renewed determination, Studio Kane chose to move forward independently, without initial external funding. The team focused on building momentum from within—creating over 100 promotional illustrations, animated media assets, fan engagement initiatives, and in-house merchandise; while completing all 16 episodes of the manhwa adaptation. Together, these efforts formed the foundation for a future revitalized marketing campaign.
The goal was simple: to expand our production budget through public support instead, ensuring our ability to honor every commitment made to the team.
Studio Kane chose the path forward with full awareness of the stakes; prioritizing the people who built the project from its foundation, even if it meant accepting the possibility that the animated adaptation of OUTLIER might never reach the screen.
The last revisions of the OUTLIER scripts were completed following its final refinements to the fully developed plot, locking in a long-range narrative designed years in advance to preserve continuity across a tightly structured, cohesive story.
At this stage, final adjustments were also made to the OUTLIER Season 1 manhwa adaptation, placing it on a strategic, scheduled release timeline.
After securing additional resources and funding from newly negotiated deals, OUTLIER’s animated production resumed in full force... This time without the looming threat of losing its independent status.
With limitations lifted, Studio Kane was finally given the opportunity to move forward with its original vision, free from corporate intervention.
Because of this, our revitalized efforts were no longer about short-term survival, but about thriving for years to come; ensuring OUTLIER reaches its fullest potential with the quality and scope it deserves.
Deciding it would be disingenuous to represent Korean culture and creativity without integrating harmoniously with its community, Studio Kane (an animation studio born of diaspora and led by an overseas Korean founder/series creator) officially relocated its creative headquarters to Busan, Republic of Korea; formally establishing its corporate entity in the country it now proudly calls home after a generation of distance.
And with that giant leap out of what was considered the "bottomless pit" of
pre-production, OUTLIER 애니 Season 1 officially entered the pipeline.
The "30 Days of OUTLIER" marketing campaign officially begins.
Fans can look forward to a large-scale rollout of promotional content, including animated trailers, key visual illustrations, fan engagement events, merchandise, rewards, and the full release of the complete OUTLIER Season 1 manhwa.
We are excited to finally share what has been quietly in development over the past seven years.
